Fierce clashes erupted this morning between Myanmar’s military junta forces and the Chin Defense Force (CDF) in Mindat Township, Chin State, resulting in the death of a 12-year-old child. According to local sources, the child was struck by artillery fire launched indiscriminately by the military. The shelling, which occurred in Ma Dat Village, originated from the 274th Infantry Battalion stationed in Mindat.
In addition to the tragic death of the 12-year-old, the child’s mother and 10-year-old brother were seriously injured by military shelling in a previous attack on June 23. The mother sustained severe head injuries, while the young boy lost a leg in the same incident. Today’s shelling further devastated the family, with one child dead and two members left severely wounded.
Local residents report that the 274th Infantry Battalion frequently shells Ma Dat Village, causing destruction to homes and resulting in civilian casualties. The ongoing assaults have left the area in fear and turmoil.
Meanwhile, heavy fighting continues in the region as CDF-Mindat forces engaged junta troops near Plom Tui this morning. The confrontation began around 9 AM when reinforcements from the junta entered the area from Tilin Township in Magway Region, aiming to push towards Mindat. The situation remains tense, with no signs of the fighting abating.
