At today’s 55th ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting, discussions were held regarding the situation in Myanmar.
The ministers addressed the severe conditions in Myanmar, including the lack of progress in implementing the five-point consensus of ASEAN, as well as other critical issues. The recent detention of four active opposition figures was highlighted as a significant setback for ASEAN’s efforts to achieve a peaceful resolution and national reconciliation in Myanmar.
It was noted that the blatant disregard for ASEAN by Myanmar’s military authorities raises concerns. The ministers emphasized that ASEAN must continue to take action and should not accept a passive role, stating that the current difficulties undermine ASEAN’s unity and centrality.
