In Paing village, located in Sai Phyu Township, Magway Region, the military junta reportedly committed murder against Ma Nhin Wai on August 9, discarding her body by the roadside, as recounted by her husband. The military had entered Paing village on August 9, leading to a chaotic escape for Ma Nhin Wai and other civilians.
While returning to their village to feed their pigs, Ma Nhin Wai and her husband encountered five soldiers at the village entrance. The soldiers opened fire, causing chaos, during which Ma Nhin Wai was captured by the military. Reports indicate that she was subsequently murdered. Her husband stated, “She was murdered. When I found her body, she was wearing a long shirt, but her shirt was missing. I saw her body in a way that indicated she was murdered after being subjected to violence. They crushed her with their bodies. One of her knees was also broken. I found her long shirt near her ankle. Her sandal was half-worn; one was missing. Her arms and feet were burnt and tortured. I saw signs of burns on her body. It was heartbreaking to see that they had killed her. I can’t stand to see such inhumane acts.”
Ma Nhin Wai was originally from Thekkekyin village in the southern part of Paok Township and had settled in Paing village, where she lived with her husband and was a mother of one son and one daughter.
After capturing Ma Nhin Wai, the military reportedly tortured her with hot metal and bindings, leaving marks on her arms and legs. Witnesses from the People’s Defense Force (PDC) stated that they found her body bearing signs of extreme violence, including wounds around her neck. “From August 9 to 10, the military forces who entered Paing village brutally killed Ma Nhin Wai. The condition of her body showed that she had been tortured with hot metal, her legs and feet bound, and her arms also appeared to be broken, with wounds around her neck,” said a representative from the PDC. He further reported encountering three soldiers near her body while observing the area with a drone.
