September 2, 2022

Daw Sandar Moe, a CDM teacher from Yenangyaung Township, Magway Region, was sentenced to three years’ hard labor under Section 505 (a) on August 31, according to friends and the education community. She was arrested by the military for allegedly providing support to the PDF. After being detained for three days due to a complaint related to social discontent, she was released but was arrested again, resulting in the three-year prison sentence and hard labor.

Daw Sandar Moe is an elementary school teacher currently imprisoned at Magway District Prison. Similarly, Ko Kyaw Thih Soe, a member of the Mandalay protest group, was sentenced to ten years in prison during a court appearance on August 31. Ko Kyaw Thih Soe, a second-year Myanmar major student at Mandalay University, actively participated in street protests against the military coup until August 16, 2021, and is also facing charges under Section 505.

Additionally, three other members of the Mandalay protest group—Ko Hein Min Zaw, Ko Kyaw Soe Moe, and Major Zaw Aung—were sentenced to three years in prison during a court appearance on September 1. The Mandalay protest group has strongly condemned the arbitrary sentencing of its members and has called for the unconditional release of political prisoners and heroes.
