Military Continues Arson in Five Villages in Htichai for Three Consecutive Days

November 30, 2022

Residents reported that the military has been conducting arson attacks for three consecutive days in five villages within Htichai Township, Sagaing Region. On November 28 and 29, the military burned down the Mid-Town, Satarin, Inginegone, and Intain villages, and today, November 30, they have resumed arson in Intain and Lethaw villages.

A local resident stated, “The military has been setting fires in Lethaw village this afternoon, and they also burned Intain village earlier in the morning. The smoke has become so dense that it obstructs visibility. Military dogs entered the village around 9 a.m. this morning. The extent of the destruction from the afternoon fires is still unknown, and the military has not yet left the village. There was a battle near Mid-Town with the PDF, and it is likely the military is retaliating by burning these villages.”

On November 28 at around 2:15 p.m., the military’s attack on the Mid-Town demonstration village resulted in the destruction of 86 residential homes. Livestock, agricultural machinery, and domestic animals, along with stocks of rice and paddy, were also reported to have been lost in the fires.
