On December 15, it was reported that the UN General Assembly would confirm the continued appointment of U Kyaw Moe Tun as Myanmar’s Permanent Representative. The military junta responded angrily after the UN Credentials Committee postponed the military’s proposal. According to Reuters, the committee, which includes representatives from nine countries, did not make any decisions on the military junta’s application for UN recognition as the new representative for Myanmar. As a result, U Kyaw Moe Tun, who is currently serving as Myanmar’s Permanent Representative to the UN, will continue in his role for an additional nine months.
Additionally, the committee also postponed the military junta’s proposals regarding new representatives from Afghanistan’s Taliban government and Libya. The committee’s decision is expected to be confirmed at the upcoming UN General Assembly meeting on December 16.
