The military has violently invaded Kanthit village in the Myingyan District, executing two civilians, detaining 20 others, and setting fire to 13 homes and a PDF camp, according to Ko Zu Ei from the Nwe Oo Revolutionary – Myingyan group. At around 5 AM on May 8, an estimated 80 troops from the 101st Battalion based in Pakokku entered Kanthit village, capturing and executing two local men, U Nan Aung, aged 40, and U Aung Zaw. They also detained about 20 people and confiscated 13 homes along with eight motorcycles belonging to the villagers.
Reports indicate that the military junta forces entered the PDF camp simultaneously, seizing two vehicles, numerous weaponry, and over 800,000 kyats in cash, subsequently setting the camp ablaze. “They entered both the PDF camp and the village at the same time. The police inside the PDF camp managed to escape, but the weaponry and over 800,000 kyats in cash were left behind when they were unable to take them due to the sudden invasion. When they entered the village, the two civilians who were killed were caught off guard. The military operation began around 5:30 AM and left by noon. We have yet to hear from the 20 detainees. The military has already reached the military base in Kantaw village, which is about three miles away from Kanthit village,” Ko Zu Ei stated.
After leaving Kanthit village, the military convoy was attacked by the People’s Defense Forces between Kanthit and Kantaw villages, where they abandoned the two seized vehicles along the road as they entered the Kantaw village military base.
“Kanthit is located between Pakokku and Myingyan, and there was no fighting there. They invaded early in the morning in Waerywaelin. They have set up blockades, and news had circulated since the previous night, so the villagers had been a little cautious. The access to those villages is quite limited, but they came in quickly today,” Ko Zu Ei explained.
