In Saitong, in the Hakha District of Kachin State, intense clashes have re-emerged, and a civilian has died due to artillery fire from the military junta, according to a source from the Kachin Independence Army (KIA).
Reports indicate that heavy artillery has been firing continuously from around 8 PM on October 6 until this morning. The fighting in the Hakha and Saitong areas, which had temporarily subsided for about five days, has resumed today.
A military source stated, “The troops in Hakha have been firing heavy artillery. Clashes have been intense throughout the night. This morning, a shell fired from the troop positions hit near a tea shop in the Kachin neighborhood of Hakha, resulting in the death of a 56-year-old woman named Daw Khin Ma Ri.”
All remaining civilians in Hakha are reportedly fearful due to the ongoing artillery fire from the military junta. In Saitong, there are concerns that clashes will continue as members of the military junta and civilian defense forces are present near the Lucky Man hotel and nearby KTV.
