Thai Parliament Member Supports Inclusion of Myanmar Issues in International Parliamentary Union Conference

October 17, 2024.

Thai parliament member Kanwee Suebsaeng has proposed to include Myanmar’s issues and peace as important matters in the International Parliamentary Union conference, according to a report from a Thai news agency.

The proposal was made during the 149th International Parliamentary Union conference held in Geneva, Switzerland, as reported by The Reporter. The conference was attended by a delegation of Myanmar parliament representatives led by NUG Union Minister and parliament member Dr. Win Myat Aye.

“We need to advocate for Myanmar’s issues. Over 18 million people are affected in Myanmar, and more than 3 million are homeless. Additionally, over 1 million Rohingya are also fleeing. This includes many who have sought refuge in Thailand. We will present the issue of Myanmar to the government, and I believe the government will respond. This is because the Prime Minister and the Foreign Minister have already announced their involvement in Myanmar’s issues at the ASEAN summit,” stated Thai parliament member Kanwee Suebsaeng.

It is also reported that Kanwee Suebsaeng met with the delegation led by NUG Minister and parliament member Dr. Win Myat Aye.
