Seven Killed and Eight Injured in Airstrike on Maungdaw and Nangcho Townships

November 3, 2024 – In Maungdaw Township, Rakhine State, and Nangcho Township in northern Shan State, a military airstrike by the junta resulted in the deaths of seven civilians, including one monk, and left eight others injured, including three monks. The airstrike occurred on November 2, 2024, with multiple bombings targeting Maungdaw Township’s Pya Thar village and surrounding areas.

According to Arakan Princess Media, the first bombing took place at 7:13 PM, followed by a second at 7:30 PM, killing four civilians, including a monk. The casualties have been identified as U Shwe Kyo (57), Daw Ma Saw Ri (64), Maung Thun Thun Win (17), and U Maung Than (64). Two monks, aged 72, were also injured in the airstrike.

Furthermore, on November 1, 2024, between 4:13 AM and 4:24 AM, three bombs were dropped on Sammasay village and a sugar factory in Nangcho Township. The bombing resulted in the deaths of three civilians: a mother who had recently given birth, a 70-year-old grandfather, and a man around 50 years old. Additionally, six people, including two monks, were injured, and both homes and the sugar factory were damaged.

The attacks continue to inflict severe losses on local communities, with numerous civilians affected by the junta’s ongoing military offensives.
