Junta Airstrikes and Artillery Bombardment Kill Four Civilians in Paukkha District

November 5, 2024 – In Paukkha District, Sagaing Region, four civilians were killed in airstrikes and artillery bombardments by the military junta, despite no ongoing clashes. According to a spokesperson from the Sagaing People’s Defense Network, the attacks targeted the villages of Aime and Alawbon without warning. At around 3:15 PM on November 5, the junta’s forces launched a jet fighter airstrike on Aime village, killing a 70-year-old man, a 25-year-old woman, and a 40-year-old man. Five others sustained severe injuries from the bombardment.

On November 4, a similar attack occurred in Alawbon village, where artillery fire from the junta struck a Buddhist monastery compound. A 40-year-old man was killed, and the monastery was also damaged in the assault. Local residents have condemned these attacks, as they were carried out without any combat between opposing forces, and targeted civilian areas.
