Residents from four villages in Nyaunglebin District, Bago Region, have fled their homes following military operations by junta forces in areas controlled by the Karen National Union (KNU). According to a KNU statement released on December 9, over 2,560 people have been displaced due to the ongoing conflict.
Villages affected include Chaung Inn, Gway Kone, Kauk Myet Thoo, and Yay Phyu Kan. The KNU reports that these residents are seeking safety from military offensives, which have involved ground assaults, drone strikes, and heavy artillery fire.
Clashes between the junta troops and the 7th Battalion of the Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA) erupted on December 7 in Yay Phyu Kan village.
Additionally, the KNU noted an incident on December 6 in Yele Bamar village, where a 37-year-old man sustained injuries from junta artillery shelling.
