The escalating violence and growing impact on civilians in Myanmar have prompted United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres to voice deep concern, according to his spokesperson, who made a statement on Thursday in New York.
Since the military seized power in February 2021, the country has witnessed indiscriminate airstrikes targeting civilians, resulting in a rising death toll. The Secretary-General has urged all parties involved in the conflict to cease acts of violence and emphasized the responsibility to protect civilians under international law. He also called for restraint from all sides to prevent further escalation of tensions. This statement underscores the UN’s ongoing alarm over the humanitarian crisis and the worsening situation in Myanmar.
