Civilian Kyaw Zin Phyo Executed by Military After Being Used as Human Shield in BuTaLin

In Budalin Township, Sagaing Region, the military reportedly executed civilian Kyaw Zin Phyo after using him as a human shield during an operation, according to local sources.

The incident occurred on January 1 at approximately 3:00 AM. Military forces advancing through villages in Budalin Township detained Kyaw Zin Phyo, a resident of Khone Min Gyi Ward, and later executed him in a coconut plantation near Taline Village.

“Kyaw Zin Phyo from Khone Min Gyi Ward was taken by the military as a human shield while they advanced towards Kuto. They executed him near a coconut plantation close to Taline Village,” a local resident stated.

The military column reportedly began their operation on December 27, departing from Budalin town and capturing numerous civilians along their route to use as human shields. Over 200 civilians were reportedly detained, and four ox carts were confiscated by the military during their operation.

Locals continue to face fear and insecurity as military forces persist with such tactics across the region, raising further concerns about civilian safety.
