Military Raid in Yesagyo Township Leaves 18 Dead, Nearly 400 Homes Burned

The ongoing military offensive in Yesagyo Township, Magway Region, has resulted in the deaths of at least 18 civilians and the destruction of nearly 400 homes across three villages, according to a member of the Yesagyo Township Info Committee.

The assault began on March 2 at around 6:30 a.m. when approximately 200 troops from Pakokku-based Infantry Battalion 101 and Yesagyo-based battalions 256, 257, and 258 raided Myaysuntaw Village in the Ye Lel Kyun region. Soldiers reportedly set fire to houses, leaving more than 270 homes in ashes by March 4.

On the morning of March 5, the troops advanced into Zayatni Village, torching 68 more homes. By the afternoon, they had moved on to Thagone Lay Village, where more than 20 additional houses were burned down.

In total, at least 358 houses in Myaysuntaw, Zayatni, and Thagone Lay villages were reduced to ashes due to the military’s arson attacks.
