A monk was killed, and two others were injured when the military shelled Khrawe village monastery in Kyaikto Township, Mon State, according to a statement from the Karen National Union (KNU).

The attack occurred at around 9:30 a.m. on March 21, when troops stationed in Lat Pae village, Waw Township, fired an artillery shell into the northern section of Khrawe village, where the monastery is located. The shell struck the monastery’s roof, causing a deadly explosion.

U Pazzin, a resident monk, was killed in the blast, while two other monks sustained injuries. The monastery building also suffered significant damage.

The KNU condemned the attack, stating that the military has been repeatedly targeting religious sites using both airstrikes and heavy artillery, escalating its assaults on civilian and sacred spaces.
