More than 50 people have been confirmed dead following the collapse of Bright Kids School in Kyaukse, Mandalay Region, as rescue operations continue, according to local sources speaking to Yangon Khit Thit News.
The school collapsed as a result of a powerful earthquake that struck on March 28. Rescue teams are still searching for survivors and recovering bodies from the rubble.
Among the casualties, at least nine teachers and over 40 children have been confirmed dead, with the death toll expected to rise as search operations proceed.
“Nine teachers and more than 40 children have lost their lives. We do not have an exact figure yet. Rescue operations are still ongoing, and urgent assistance is needed,” a local resident stated.
In addition, over 120 bodies have been recovered from the collapse of the A Myauk Tan Mosque in Mandalay, where rescue efforts are also continuing.
