An elderly couple was killed when the Myanmar military carried out an airstrike on Aung Gyi Nyaung Pin Thar Village in Mone Township, Nyaunglebin District, Bago Region on the morning of May 13, according to friends of the victims.
The junta aircraft bombed the village despite no clashes being reported in the area. U Kyi Aung, aged 80, and Daw Taw, aged 72, were killed instantly. A 10-year-old child was also injured in the strike. The bombing reportedly destroyed several homes and a monastery.
“There was no fighting at all. The bomb was dropped directly on the village. There are no resistance forces stationed there—only civilians live in the village,” said a relative of the victims.
In a separate incident, the junta also dropped bombs on Moe Kok in the same district during the night of May 13, targeting civilian areas once again with no prior provocation.
