Two civilians were abducted and killed by junta troops in Kanbalu Township, Sagaing Region, after returning from a funeral, according to a local official from Battalion 4 under Kanbalu District People’s Defense Force.

The incident occurred on April 13, when three men from Khaungta village were returning home from a funeral and were intercepted between Ngekpyaungtaing Ywarthit and Paekyi villages by junta forces hiding in the area. Two of them were captured and executed, while the third reportedly managed to escape.

The victims were identified as 28-year-old Ko Nay Lin Oo and 39-year-old Ko Chit Naing, both residents of Khaungta village. Their bodies were later found dumped beside the road between the two villages, according to locals familiar with the case.

Residents and resistance forces in the area have condemned the military’s continued targeting of civilians, especially during periods of mourning, as part of a broader campaign of terror and intimidation in resistance strongholds.
