A meeting was held between a member of the South Korean National Assembly’s Policy Committee and representatives from the National Unity Government (NUG) office to address visa-related difficulties, challenges faced by Myanmar refugees, and ways to provide assistance.
The discussion took place on December 30, from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM, with South Korean National Assembly member Lee Kang-il and officials from the Myanmar NUG Representative Office in South Korea. The meeting included Lee Kang-il, who represents Cheongju Sangdang District, and his secretary Kwon Tae-hun. They engaged in detailed discussions regarding Myanmar’s ongoing revolutionary processes and the challenges faced by Myanmar nationals residing in South Korea. Representing the NUG office were U Soe Moe Thu, the office head, and U Win Paw Maung, the administrative officer. Lee Kang-il, known for his interest in human rights, refugee affairs, and labor rights, expressed his commitment to addressing these critical issues. He emphasized the importance of resolving visa-related difficulties faced by Myanmar nationals, assisting unjustly detained individuals, and supporting those displaced by conflict. The NUG representatives also discussed plans to re-establish a parliamentary group dedicated to Myanmar affairs, hold parliamentary hearings, and strengthen collaboration between NUG, CRPH, and the South Korean National Assembly in the coming year.
