Washington D.C., USA—A protest took place today in front of the Chinese Embassy in Washington D.C., led by Myanmar artists and overseas Myanmar nationals, opposing China’s involvement in Myanmar’s internal affairs. The demonstration was organized to express disagreement with China’s policies and to call for non-interference in Myanmar’s domestic matters, urging China to work with Myanmar’s National Unity Government (NUG) in a more supportive manner.
The protestors, including Myanmar artists and members of the Myanmar community in the United States, gathered in front of the Chinese Embassy from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM on January 3, coinciding with Myanmar’s Independence Day on January 4. They voiced their demands for China to cease its interference and to respect Myanmar’s sovereignty.
Myanmar nationals from various states including Texas, Indiana, Massachusetts, New York, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Kentucky, North Carolina, South Carolina, Washington D.C., Virginia, and Maryland participated in the protest. Notable artists and figures such as singer Yan Yan Chan, Lin Nic, Lin Thet, Kyaw Thiha, and Htet Aung Shain also joined the demonstration.
