Student Leader and Former Political Prisoner Lin Htet Naing (James) Arrested and Under Interrogation

Prominent political activist and former student leader Lin Htet Naing, also known as James, was arrested by the military and police on June 18 and has since been transferred for military interrogation, according to a family member. He was arrested in Botahtaung Township on June 18 by security forces, and after being detained for a day at the local police station, he was sent to military interrogation. “We only know he was held for a day at the Botahtaung police station. After that, we were informed he had been taken to military interrogation, but we don’t know where,” said a family contact. Lin Htet Naing had a case opened against him under Section 505(a) in March 2021. As a well-known former student leader and political activist, he has been frequently arrested for his role in the democracy movement.
