In Taungkyar Village, Sagaing Region, the Myanmar military launched a destructive arson attack on the morning and afternoon of August 29, resulting in the burning down of 130 civilian homes, as reported by the Sagaing News Reporting Team.

Before entering the village, clashes occurred nearby on August 28, leading to the deaths of two soldiers. Following this, while the military entered Taungkyar Village, they faced further landmine attacks, and later that evening, they set the village on fire.

On the afternoon of August 29, while the military was burning the village, local defense forces engaged in combat, resulting in injuries on both sides, leading to the military withdrawing from the village.

A spokesperson from the Sagaing News Reporting Team stated, “Before entering the village, during the encounter, one PDF member was killed. The soldiers suffered two fatalities and lost two weapons. They also faced landmine attacks upon entering the village. Currently, the soldiers are no longer in Taungkyar Village, but they remain in the nearby towns. The villagers from both Taungtown and Taungkyar have not returned yet. Just yesterday afternoon, when the military was burning inside the village, they were also attacked, and the soldiers faced casualties.”
