Myanmar Military Burns 70-Year-Old Couple Alive, Tortures and Kills Young Man in Shwe Taung Village

In Shwe Taung village, Butalin Township, Sagaing Region, the Myanmar military killed a 70-year-old couple by burning them alive, and tortured and killed a 30-year-old man, according to local residents. On the morning of January 2, military troops entered the village and set fire to the elderly couple, killing them. They then arrested a young man in his 30s, tortured him, and later killed him in a nearby field.

“At 9 a.m., the military entered the village and burned a couple in their 70s. They took the young man and tortured him in a field outside the village before killing him,” a local resident reported. The military, consisting of a force of 65 troops, also burned down at least 10 civilian homes in Shwe Taung village.
