Shwebo: Military Torches UNESCO-Recognized Kangyi Village, Monasteries Reduced to Ashes

In Shwebo Township, Sagaing Region, the military torched the UNESCO-recognized Kangyi Village, destroying homes and monasteries, according to local residents. On January 12, around 2 PM, military forces stormed Kangyi Village, setting fire to civilian homes and religious sites, leaving the village in ruins.

“Kangyi Village, part of Pyu Ancient Cities and recognized by UNESCO, was set ablaze by military forces stationed in Htanlin. Monasteries have been reduced to ashes, and the extent of the destruction is yet to be confirmed,” said a local resident.
