The National Unity Government (NUG) of Myanmar has briefed United Nations diplomats on the current situation in Myanmar, urging them not to collaborate with armed groups. The Minister for Human Rights, U Aung Myo Min, represented the NUG during a briefing held at the UN headquarters in Geneva on September 19 at 10 AM, where he addressed the human rights situation and the impact of ongoing flooding on the people of Myanmar.

During the briefing, U Aung Myo Min emphasized the urgent need for international cooperation in response to the current conditions in Myanmar. He stated that the NUG is working closely with ethnic organizations to provide relief and emergency response efforts for those affected by flooding, seeking humanitarian assistance through cross-border programs.

He also highlighted past instances where the military exploited international humanitarian aid during natural disasters, leading to calls for avoiding collaboration with armed groups.

In addition, the minister expressed the NUG’s commitment to accountability and responsibility as outlined in the report from the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, pledging to act according to the recommendations provided.

The briefing for UN diplomats was organized by the Luxembourg embassy, and it saw the participation of responsible officials from UN agencies and personnel from various UN offices, engaging in a dialogue on issues concerning Myanmar.
