The MNDAA (Myanmar National Democratic Alliance Army) officially announced that the military junta targeted the Chinese Guan Yin Temple in Lashio, Northern Shan State, with airstrikes, causing damage to statues and buildings. This morning, on October 4, it was reported that military aircraft from the aggressive junta bombed the Chinese religious site located in Ward 5 of Lashio, destroying many statues and structures within the temple grounds.
From 2:13 AM to 5:20 AM today, military aircraft bombed Lashio, reportedly hitting Ward 8’s 121 West Block twice and the historic Chinese temple in Ward 5 twice. The attacks resulted in damage to the temple and nearby residences, injuring at least one civilian.
Following a post on social media on October 3, indicating that MNDAA members were gathering near the Chinese temple and Lake Mountain, the military is believed to have conducted these airstrikes on the morning of October 4. According to the MNDAA statement, there were four bombing incidents by aircraft within three hours from 2:13 AM to 5:20 AM on October 4, with two of the airstrikes specifically targeting the Guan Yin Temple and causing extensive damage to its structures, while the other two airstrikes targeted buildings in Ward 8, resulting in injuries to one civilian.
It has been noted that the aggressive military junta had paused airstrikes from October 1 to October 3, but resumed bombing activities on October 4.
