Landmine Explosions in Kutkai and Namkham Kill Two Children, Injure One Civilian; Military Torches 16 Homes in Aukphoe

Two children were killed and one civilian was seriously injured after stepping on landmines planted by the military in Kutkai and Namkham townships, Shan State, according to a statement from the Ta’ang National Liberation Army (TNLA).

On February 2, at around 11:30 a.m., four children from Nam Sai Village, Kutkai Township, were fishing in a stream when they accidentally triggered a handmade landmine. Two children died on the spot, while two others sustained severe injuries.

The victims were identified as four-year-old Lway Aye Nwe and five-year-old Mine A Nain, who died in the explosion. Nine-year-old Mine Htun Aung and eight-year-old Mine A Nyo La were injured and have been taken to the hospital for medical treatment.

Similarly, on February 5, at approximately 3:36 p.m., U Kyine Ngo, a 61-year-old farmer from Naung Tain Village, Namkham Township, stepped on an unexploded landmine while tending to his crops. The explosion left him with severe injuries.
