Model Han Lay, who is currently under the full protection of the UNHCR, reported that junta soldiers are trying to locate and capture her at Bangkok Airport. “They sent a message saying they were already at the airport. They think my sister is at a detention center, so they came with the police to check. They asked about my sister, inquiring where she is and even went to ask the Vietnamese Airlines where my sister might be. They are requesting to meet her. My sister has already informed the UNHCR about this. She has no reason to go meet them and has also stated that she is not meeting anyone. This is an emergency situation, so I don’t want to say too much,” she stated.
Although she was temporarily detained at Bangkok Airport last night, Han Lay confirmed that she is now fully under the protection of the UNHCR and has received guarantees from Thai authorities not to be deported back to Myanmar. She also stated that she has been granted temporary residency within the Thai airport, according to reports from Yangon Times.
The junta has opened a case against model Han Lay under Section 124 of the Penal Code for undermining state security and is actively attempting to apprehend her.
