A stone-truck driver named Maung Soe was shot and killed by the military without provocation late at night in Boatpyin Township, Tanintharyi Region, according to local sources. The incident occurred at around 10:30 p.m. on October 22 in Pyigyimandaing, where Maung Soe, also known as U Zaw Win, a 27-year-old resident of Myeik, was driving his stone-laden truck when he was fatally shot by military and Pyusawhti forces.
“It wasn’t because he refused to stop. They just waited in front and shot as his truck came. There aren’t many vehicles on the road at that time, around 10:30 p.m., so they deliberately shot him. The bullet went straight into his chest, and he died instantly on the truck,” said a local witness.
