December 25, 2022. In Kalay Town, Sagaing Region, the military has arbitrarily killed U Thian Zei Thang, the father of four children, according to local residents and regional news sources, Zalen.
On December 24, at around 11 AM, the military stationed at a checkpoint on the corner of Bo Cho Street and Waisali Hospital Road opened fire on a motorcycle carrying two civilians. U Thian Zei Thang, who was following behind on another motorcycle, was hit in the chest and died on the spot, while the motorcycle rider was also reportedly hit.
“The two victims were from Pyin-Khone-Gyi village. The military often carries out random shootings in Kalay Town. This time, they shot at a motorcycle without any provocation. The bodies have reportedly been taken away. The situation in Kalay is dire, and the military is acting unpredictably,” said a local resident from Kalay Town.
