In the Nawthokyi Township of Mandalay Region, a militant military group has reportedly burned down Kukun village, killing three civilians and incinerating their bodies, according to local residents.

On the morning of June 10, the armed group entered Kukun village, leaving no opportunity for villagers to escape. They shot three elderly civilians, all over the age of 70, and subsequently burned their bodies.

Currently, the remains of only one of the three victims, identified as U Boat Htay, have been found, while the other two bodies are still missing. Many houses in Kukun village have also been destroyed by fire due to the military’s actions, but details regarding the extent of the destruction have yet to be confirmed.

A local resident recounted, “When the military entered the village, the elderly residents couldn’t run away. They thought they wouldn’t be shot since they were not in a position to fight back, but the military executed all three remaining elderly civilians. They also placed the bodies inside their homes and set them on fire. So far, we’ve only found the body of U Boat Htay; the other two are still missing, and many houses have been burned down.”
