October 17, 2024.

In the Kachin State, in the Panwa and Kampaiti regions, the Kachin Independence Army (KIA) has captured two military bases: the Chanyinkhu military base and the security base of BGF 1003. According to KIA sources, the Chinese side has blocked the entry of refugees fleeing from the conflict in Panwa.

On October 17, it was reported that the KIA had completely captured the Chanyinkhu base, located about six miles from Panwa, and the security base of BGF 1003, approximately seven miles from Kampaiti. Fighting in the Panwa and Kampaiti areas remains intense, and the entry of refugees seeking safety into China has been obstructed at the Panwa border gate.

A KIA source stated, “We captured the Chanyinkhu base, which is about six miles from Panwa. We haven’t captured BGF 1003 yet; we only have the two security bases. The BGF 1003 base is near the Shinkyaing village and about seven miles from Kampaiti. Today, we took control of the Chanyinkhu base and two security bases of BGF. We haven’t captured BGF 1003 yet. The fighting is still ongoing and intense.”
