Military Airstrikes in Gwa and Toungup: 11 Civilians Killed, Gwa Bridge Destroyed

The Myanmar military carried out airstrikes in Gwa and Toungup Townships, Rakhine State, on November 13 and 14, killing 11 civilians and injuring more than five, according to local sources.

On November 13, at around 10:00 a.m., the military dropped bombs on Jaikauk Village in Gwa Township, despite no clashes taking place in the area. Seven civilians were killed, and five sustained injuries. The victims included Ma Thae Thae, 9; Ma Yun Yadi Hlaing, 15; Ko Ree Chan, 28; U Bamdo, 54; U Moe Nyo, 54; Daw Khin Thet Mu, 60; and U San Hlaing, 65. The injured were identified as U Nu, U Tun Tun Naing, Ko Maung Maung Naing, U Tin Win, and Ma Lay Lay Wah.

Additionally, on November 14, at around 8:30 p.m., military troops destroyed the Jaikauk Bridge (Sapthway Creek Bridge) using explosives before retreating, according to a source from Gwa. A resident stated, “Clashes are happening in many areas, but it’s hard to pinpoint where exactly. The military troops at the Jaikauk Bridge planted mines and destroyed it before fleeing towards Gwa town.”

Similarly, on November 14, at around 3:00 a.m., the military launched a drone strike and artillery attack on Yankho Village in Toungup Township. These attacks reportedly killed at least four civilians. Further details about the casualties and the impact of these attacks are still being confirmed.
