Military Airstrikes and Artillery Shelling in Bago Region Kill 2 and Injure 5 Civilians

December 19, 2024 Bago Region, Ledi and Saw Township – Military forces launched aerial and artillery bombardments on villages in Ledi and Saw townships, resulting in the deaths of two civilians and injuries to five others. Additionally, four houses were destroyed, according to a report from the KNU Central Committee. On the morning of December 14, at around 10:40 AM, fighter planes from the Taungoo Air Force dropped two 500-pound bombs on Tha-Kyoe-Gyi village in Saw Township. Later that day, at around 4:00 PM, the Kyaw-57 artillery unit fired a 60mm mortar shell that exploded in Sanphae village, injuring civilian Aung Khet Kyo in the abdomen. The following day, December 15, at approximately 6:40 AM, the Kha-264 battalion launched a 120mm mortar round near Aopla village in Saw Township, causing an explosion. Then, around 2:30 PM the same day, the Kha-264 battalion fired seven 122mm artillery shells near Dakhula and Lomuthaw villages in Ledi Township. As a result, two civilians, 48-year-old Daw Khin The and 46-year-old Daw Mani from Dakhula village, were injured, while two houses and one motorcycle were destroyed.
