An 82-year-old man was killed and five homes were destroyed when the military fired artillery shells into Lat Wai and Myin Ni villages in Natogyi Township, Mandalay Region, according to local residents.

The shelling occurred at around 7:20 p.m. on April 11, when troops from Infantry Battalion 15 based in Myingyan Township launched artillery strikes on the villages without any reported clashes in the area.

Local sources said that U Paw Than, a resident of the village, was struck by shrapnel and killed instantly after a shell landed directly on his home. The explosions also caused fires that destroyed five houses.

“Last night, soldiers from IB-15 in Myingyan fired four artillery shells toward Lat Wai and Myin Ni. All four landed and exploded in the village. One hit U Paw Than’s house, killing him on the spot. Five houses caught fire and were completely destroyed,” said a local resident.
