A pregnant woman was killed in an aerial bombing carried out by the military junta using a Y-12 aircraft on Northern Kamarat village in Kawkareik Township, Karen State, on April 16, according to a spokesperson from the Mon Liberation Army.
The attack occurred at approximately 12:40 p.m. on Thingyan A-tet Day (the day following Myanmar New Year). The bomb dropped by the junta’s aircraft hit the village, resulting in the death of 37-year-old pregnant woman Ma Nhin Oo. She was reportedly struck in the back by shrapnel and died after going into premature labor, unable to survive the injuries.
The airstrike also injured four other civilians, including two children. Those wounded were identified as U Pho Kyaw, U Pan Thwin, seven-year-old The Poe Lay, and nine-year-old The Myat Noe, all residents of Northern Kamarat village.
Local resistance groups and residents condemned the junta’s continued use of airstrikes against civilian areas, especially during the culturally significant Thingyan festival period, calling the attacks deliberate acts of terror.
