Retired Teacher in Her 80s Killed in Junta Artillery Strike on Village in Minhla Township

In an artillery attack carried out by junta forces, Daw Tin Yi, a retired headmistress in her 80s, was killed in Phalay Kwin Myauk Su Village, part of Gangawbin village tract in Minhla Township, Bago Region, according to local sources.

The shelling occurred around 2 a.m. on June 17, when junta troops stationed at the monastery in Tar Kalay Village opened fire with heavy weapons toward Phalay Kwin Myauk Su Village. The attack reportedly originated from troops based in the Tar Kalay monastery compound.

During the shelling, a heavy weapon struck and exploded at a house in the village, critically injuring Daw Tin Yi. Her leg was severed in the blast, and she died shortly after from her injuries.

Her adopted daughter, Khaing Thin Kyi, who suffers from a mental health condition, also sustained serious injuries in the attack, including the loss of three fingers.
