Military Arson Destroys Over 100 Homes in Kyauk Taing Village; Entire Village of Htan Pin Saik Set on Fire

In Sagaing Region’s Wetlet Township, the military burned down more than 100 homes in Kyauk Taing village during an operation on June 1 and 2, according to local residents. The arson took place in the late afternoon of June 1 and continued into the morning of June 2, devastating the western part of the village. A local resident said, “The military entered and burned over 100 homes in the western part of the village on June 1 and 2.”

Currently, residents are in urgent need of food, clothing, and shelter, as the monsoon season has begun. Meanwhile, in Sagaing’s Tanse Township, the military began setting fire to Htan Pin Saik village on June 3, following an operation that began the day before, during which civilian possessions were looted. “The soldiers looted everything they could before burning down the entire village today. It is likely that many homes have been destroyed,” said one local resident.
