According to a report released by the Spring Revolution Database (SRD), the Myanmar military committed 304 war crimes nationwide in September, resulting in the deaths of 225 civilians at the hands of military council troops.
The SRD report indicates that the brutal military and its affiliated groups perpetrated 304 war crimes throughout September.
These acts of violence by the military, including their governing bodies, police forces, and militia groups, involved arbitrary arrests, unlawful killings, disposal of corpses, arson, home demolitions, assaults in prisons, forced conscription under martial law, sexual violence against women, and various forms of extortion and harassment, including phone and internet shutdowns and arrests based on guest lists.
The report highlights that military leaders carried out 14 incidents of extortion against civilians in September and conducted seven recruitment drives for military service, along with eight instances of forcibly conscripting individuals into the military.
Additionally, the report states that various methods of violence from the military resulted in the deaths of 225 civilians in September, primarily due to airstrikes, which accounted for at least 135 of these fatalities. The military council, which has been losing ground across the country, has intensified airstrikes targeting civilians.
Furthermore, 29 civilians were killed due to heavy weapon impacts, and three civilians died in military operations during September, while two more were killed by militia forces.
Throughout September, the military carried out 259 airstrikes, with 76 of these attacks occurring in Shan State and Sagaing Region. The military has intensified its air assaults on civilian targets in northern Shan due to pressure from China on certain revolutionary forces to cease hostilities. Reports indicate that in September alone, 17 airstrikes were conducted in Kachin State.
Additionally, there were 261 clashes between revolutionary forces and military council troops in September, resulting in 495 military casualties, 10 police deaths, and 36 fatalities among other military council allied groups, while revolutionary forces suffered 77 casualties.
