Military Airstrike Targets Three Locations in Hpakant, Killing Seven Civilians

An airstrike carried out by the military, targeting three locations in Hpakant Township, Kachin State—including a gemstone mining compound in Sankhar Village—has resulted in the deaths of seven civilians, according to KIA sources and local residents.

The attack occurred today, January 13, at approximately 10:38 a.m., when a Yak-130 fighter jet reportedly departed from Tada-U Air Base in Mandalay Region. The jet bombed areas including Mazupyan Town, a gem mining site operated by Myan Yar Gemstone Company, and a mining area in Sankhar Village. Following the bombings, machine-gun fire was also directed at the targeted locations.

In addition to the seven fatalities, another seven civilians were reported injured in the assault. Further details about the incident and the condition of the injured are being investigated.
