Woman Injured, House Destroyed as Junta Bombards Villages in Nyaunglebin District

A woman was injured and a house destroyed after Myanmar’s military conducted aerial and artillery attacks on villages in Nyaunglebin District, Bago Region, according to a statement from the Karen National Union (KNU) headquarters.

On May 3, junta forces from Infantry Battalion 60 shelled the villages of Manikwin, Ngethwe Sote, and Yelay in Mone Township using 120 mm heavy artillery. The attacks reportedly damaged homes and caused panic among local residents.

Later, on May 5, forces from Infantry Battalion 439 fired two 120 mm shells into Bhuayarlaha village, where 41-year-old Ma Moe Thida was struck by shrapnel and injured.

On May 6, junta aircraft dropped 24 bombs on several villages including Ywagyiaing, Kyunkone, Myanma Sane Lay, Southeast Group, Southwest Group, Tamakhao, and Yan Myo Aung, resulting in widespread destruction and displacement.
