Reports indicate that a military junta consisting of nearly 100 soldiers has burned down 25 villages in the Hkin U Township of Sagaing Region.
Since March 24, a combined force of 91 soldiers and 8 Pyu Saw Htee militia members, totaling 99 individuals, has attacked various villages, including Ya Taw, U Yaung, Pyin Taung, Kain Pyit, Thareikone, Ba Oe, Gahlone, and others. The military has been using heavy weaponry to conduct these assaults, leading to significant destruction.
Local defense forces have also engaged in counterattacks against the junta troops, which have included landmines deployed in Kalalu village on March 29, March 30, and April 1 at Tan Kone Gyi village, as well as on April 4 between Ohn Pin Kone and Sain Gone villages.
This morning, as the junta troops retreated from Hkin U Township, it was reported that only 82 soldiers remained, with 17 casualties from landmines.
On March 24, two members of the local defense forces, three youth on March 31, and one civilian, along with three youth on April 3, totaling 9 individuals, have been reported dead.
In the course of the military’s arson, on March 31, 52 houses (second incident) in Kalalu village and 6 houses (second incident) in Shar Lin village were burned down, followed by 4 houses in Minwun Seik Kwin village on April 2, and 209 houses (176 apartment units) in Nga Tin Gyi village on April 3. This morning, 6 houses in Ohn Pin Kone village and 3 houses in Sain Gone village were also set on fire, bringing the total to 280 civilian-owned homes destroyed within 13 days.
Since March 1, a total of 646 houses in Hkin U Township have been burned, leaving around 3,500 innocent civilians homeless, while approximately 37,000 civilians have been forced to flee from their villages.
