Singapore Foreign Minister Calls for the Immediate Release of Aung San Suu Kyi to Facilitate National Reconciliation in Myanmar

Vivian Balakrishnan, the Foreign Minister of Singapore, has called for the immediate release of Aung San Suu Kyi, a key figure for national reconciliation in Myanmar, during a meeting in Bangkok today. This request was made at the Myanmar-focused free discussion held in Bangkok, Thailand, and was shared via his social media accounts.

At the free meeting, it was confirmed that the Myanmar military had agreed to adhere to five ASEAN consensus points, including the immediate cessation of violence against civilians and the necessity for inclusive dialogues among all parties to reach a peaceful and lasting solution. In particular, Balakrishnan emphasized the urgent need for the release of Aung San Suu Kyi, stressing her significance in Myanmar’s national reconciliation and democratic process.
