A total of 185 young people have been unlawfully detained under the junta’s conscription law in Kalay Township, Sagaing Region, and forcibly sent to the frontlines, according to a representative from the Kalay People’s Defense Committee.
On January 1, 2025, the junta and its affiliates enacted the Cybersecurity Law, which lacks democratic standards. Using this law as a pretext, the military has been conducting phone inspections on urban and rural roads under its control, arbitrarily arresting numerous youths without solid legal justification.
Arrests have taken place not only in urban neighborhoods but also within religious compounds. In Kalay, 45 young people were detained under the sixth batch of conscription and later sent to the frontline in Chin State. Another 50 detainees from the seventh batch were transported to the battlefronts in Chin and Rakhine states.
