Military Airstrikes in Kani Township Kill One Civilian Amid Continued Bombing

March 11, 2025

A military airstrike in Kani Township, Sagaing Region, has killed one civilian, despite no ongoing clashes in the area, according to local residents. The attacks are reportedly ongoing.

At around 2 p.m. today, a military aircraft dropped five bombs on Natgyi and Muthaw East villages in southern Kani Township. The bombing resulted in the destruction of a vehicle and the death of one civilian.

“One bomb landed on the riverside near Muthaw, while four others hit the riverside near Natgyi. A herd of cattle was also killed in Muthaw, and a civilian lost their life in Natgyi, where a vehicle was set ablaze. There were no ground clashes—this area is just a regular ferry crossing,” said a resident of Natgyi village.

The military junta has increasingly relied on airstrikes in Kani Township instead of ground offensives. In a recent attack on Chaungma village, at least five civilians were killed, while another airstrike in Kyauk Hlae Ka village also resulted in the deaths of five civilians.
