On December 31, 2024, the military junta conducted an airstrike on Yotayok village in Ponnar Island Township, Rakhine State, killing five civilians, including a 9-year-old child. According to APM, a regional news source, the airstrike occurred in two waves at 1:25 PM and 1:31 PM, carried out by a single jet fighter.
The bombing claimed the lives of 76-year-old Daw Matha Hla from Tan Khoe village, 25-year-old Ma Oo San Nwe from Kwan Taung village, and 18-year-old Ko Myo Zaw Htun from the same village. In addition, a teacher and at least nine other villagers were reported to have sustained injuries.
Furthermore, the bombing also resulted in the deaths of 9-year-old Maung Myo Hein Aung from San Pyi Ward and 48-year-old U Hla Phyu from Yotayok village, bringing the total death toll to five civilians. The attack is part of the ongoing military operations targeting civilian areas, leading to increasing casualties and widespread devastation in the region.
